OCM Drum Thickener BR are widely used not only in municipal and industrial sewage sludge thickening, but also in various industries. The main purpose of sludge thickening is to reduce the sludge volume before further sludge treatment steps.

The construction of the OCM Drum Thickener BR consists of a stainless steel or galvanized body with an internally rotating steel cylindrical frame covered with a filter fabric. These sludge thickeners continue to be continuously developed to achieve the highest possible performance while saving operating costs.


  • High throughput and low energy consumption. BR drum sludge thickeners have a high operating efficiency, which means that they can dehydrate a higher solids content in the sludge, but with a lower energy and polyelectrolyte consumption.
  • Reliable process. A simple, time-tested process with stable operation without the need for high labor costs.
  • Wear resistance and durability. Thanks to the high quality AISI 304 or AISI 316 stainless steel body and low rotational speed, the drum compactor is wear-resistant and low-maintenance.

How it works

The main purpose of a sludge thickener is to reduce the volume of sludge before further sludge treatment steps. These OCM drum thickeners work on the principle of gravity by filtering the sludge to be thickened through a special fabric. The filter cloth is elastically tensioned around a steel cylindrical frame.
During operation, the sludge mass is fed into the centre of the thickener where the guiding edges spread the sludge and push it to the other end of the thickener. Here it is retained on the filter fabric, while the filtered water is conveyed to the downstream waste water treatment circuit.
The sludge scraper pushes the sludge into a pit in the centre of the thickener, where it is fed to the next stage of treatment. The sludge thickener is enclosed to prevent the spread of odours. The resulting gases are collected and cleaned to ensure environmental protection.
In order to improve the compaction efficiency, polymers may be added during the compaction process to form sludge flakes which are then more easily separated.
In some cases, drum compactors may be equipped with an automatic control system that adjusts the speed and efficiency of the compaction process according to the conditions of the sludge flow and the density level.
