Innovations in wastewater treatment: Noggerath® Rotary Drum Screens

Rotary Drum screens get their name from their unique drum shape, a sieve design that effectively separates solids from liquids. This technology is designed to increase the efficiency and reliability of wastewater treatment processes. Due to its versatility, the grate can be used in a wide range of applications from municipal to industrial wastewater treatment.

Noggerath® rotary drum screens are characterised by their reliability and durability. The stainless steel construction ensures corrosion resistance and reduces maintenance, while the drum screen structure traps even the finest particles. These grilles perform well even under demanding conditions and can therefore be used in a wide range of industries.

Successful application in the Istanbul-Atakoya region

One of the successful examples of Noggerath® rotary drum screen is a project in the Istanbul-Atakoya region. In 2016, with the rapid growth of population and industry, it became apparent that the existing wastewater treatment plants were no longer meeting the demand. The expansion of the plant started with the integration of an advanced MBR process, which requires highly reliable primary mechanical protection of the membranes.

Space constraints and stringent requirements led to the decision to choose the Noggerath® RSI-DD rotary drum screen grating with dual drive, allowing independent operation of the drum and screw conveyor. Eight of these rotary drum screens are installed to effectively protect the membranes, ensuring stability even under high loads.

Other types of Noggerath® rotary drum screens

One of the first Noggerath® rotary drum screens has been in use for more than 25 years. They were first used in the paper industry. Over time, they have been developed and adapted to different types of wastewater. Today, several types of screens are produced, differing in appearance and application, but united by a common drum-shaped screen design.

Noggerath® RSI-DD – these screens are designed for high wastewater flows and are suitable for areas where space is limited. The perforated mesh can have openings from 1 to 10 mm. These screens integrate screening, material transport, dewatering, compaction and removal functions. The optional Radial Eco Drive provides protection against long fibre waste wrapping around the shaft, which reduces maintenance and increases worker safety.

Noggerath® RSH-E – these screens effectively separate floating materials, grease and sticky particles. They are ideal for the food, beverage, chemical and slaughterhouse industries. The spring-loaded scraper effectively scrapes off even oily and sticky substances accumulated on the sieve. The integration of a spiral press provides additional compaction and dewatering of the sieved materials.

Noggerath® RSH-I is an extremely robust screen for screening large volumes of litter and hard litter. The external drum reinforcement spiral ensures stable operation regardless of the material content. Pioneered in the paper industry, they have also been successfully used in the plastics, fruit and vegetable processing, wood processing, breweries and for the separation of coarse solids in conjunction with sand traps and/or sand washing units.

Conclusion

Noggerath® rotary drum screens are versatile and can be used in a wide range of applications, from the containment of small waste to the separation of the largest debris. We hope this review will help you choose the solution that best meets your wastewater treatment needs and ensures high environmental standards.
